Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has pleaded with President William Ruto to intervene and assist him get back his money which was frozen by the courts.
Speaking during the launch of Nairobi Rivers Commission on Wednesday in Korogocho, Sonko said that he is among leaders and other persons who were victimized by the past administration for working with President Ruto.
Sonko noted that DP Gachagua was among those who were vitmised even using courts but since the President Ruto administration came in he has had his cases dropped and his money released.
“In the past regime a lot of things happened to most of us who were supporting you, Gachagua has now been refunded his money and others have had their cases dropped.I just want my frozen refunded just like Gachagua,” Sonko stated.
The launch was attended by the President, DP Gachagua, senior government officials and other development partners.
Sonko’s accounts holding about Sh 18 million were frozen on February 2020 following a ruling by Justice Luka Kimaru.
The funds are held at Equity bank, Diamond Trust Bank and Cooperative Bank.
The case was withdrwan for lack of evidence but the DPP appealed, claiming that the court relied on extraneous factoes in its decision to acquit Sonko and co-accused.
