After President William Ruto ordered security agents to deal with the rising cases of goons in the country, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has laughed off the crackdown.
Gachagua mocked the President’s order and asked who is going to carry out the order since, according to him, the security agencies are compromised.
“Mr. William Ruto, I have heard that today you ordered that goons and criminals be dealt with across the country. Fair enough. But is this the first time you are saying this? Who moves around Nairobi and the country with goons? Not you?” Gachagua asked.
“Anyway, who will do it?”
“You seem to have lost control of the country, and you have no idea what is happening in Kenya. The problem in the East African Haiti, formerly the Republic of Kenya, is not goons.”
Rogue police officers?
Gachagua further claimed there are some rogue officers who are used to carry out activities that harm Kenyans.
“It is rogue police officers working with goons to terrorize Kenyans. They are under the direction of Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen and Raymond Omollo, whom you appointed to protect Kenyans in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, but whom they have converted into a Ministry of Goonism and Coordination of Terror against Kenyans,” he added.
“It is either they are doing it with your authority, or you have absolutely no idea what is happening in the country of which you are supposed to be President.”
Ol-Kalou case
The former Mathira Member of Parliament gave an example of how non-uniformed police officers harassed those who were in uniforms during the Ol-Kalou by-election.
“The IG deployed over 2,000 police officers, four platoons of the dreaded GSU, four platoons of Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) officers, water cannons, and the entire regional and county security teams. Police officers working in plain clothes, hooded and armed with automatic rifles and tear gas, terrorized innocent Kenyans for over six hours,” he added.
“They harassed uniformed police officers and tear-gassed the County Commissioner under the command of Members of Parliament allied to you. The uniformed police officers, the GSU, the ASTU, and the regional and county security teams were helpless because Mr. Murkomen had deployed them.”
Gachagua said the said officers killed two people, injured twenty, and raped multiple women. Six days later, not a single arrest has been made.
Police complain
Gachagua added that police officers are complaining that Ruto has allowed Murkomen and Raymond Omollo to transform the National Police Service into a criminal outfit that commits crimes instead of combating crime.
“The same squad that attacked Witima ACK Church in January is the same one that attacked voters in Ol Kalou. Investigators have told me in confidence that you personally stopped the prosecution of the rogue police officers who attacked Witima ACK Church, since you were the one who ordered the attack,” he added.
“They have equally told me that nothing will come out of the Ol Kalou attack investigations because Murkomen has told them that you authorized the attack.”
“Stop fooling Kenyans, Mr. Ruto. If you cannot protect Kenyans from police goons, how will you protect tourists and investors? You, Murkomen, and Raymond Omollo are the greatest existential threat to our national security and the existence of our Republic.”
