City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has asked President William Ruto not to pick his Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as his running mate in the 2027 presidential race.
Abdullahi’s comments come at a time when the debate on who is the suitable candidate to deputise Ruto in the 2027 showdown rages.
‘Lightweight and deadstock’
According to Abdullahi, Kindiki brings nothing in terms of votes, and thus Ruto should fetch a different candidate.
“He adds nothing useful to any ticket. He is a dwarf in multiple senses. He is lightweight in more than one way. He is a liability personified. He is well past his sell-by date. He is a deadstock. He is dead as a dodo,” Abdullahi argued in a statement made on July 19, 2026.
“His Mt. Kenya people ridicule and loathe him…and rightly so. He is a political freeloader taking a complimentary ride at the back of his boss. President Ruto MUST LET HIM GO!”
Kindiki ahead
Abdullahi’s remarks come barely days after a survey by InfoTrak showed that Kindiki is Ruto’s most preferred running mate in the Mt Kenya region. The poll, released on Monday, July 13, 2026, found that 41 per cent of respondents in the Central region believe Kindiki would best strengthen Ruto’s re-election bid. Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru ranked a distant second with 14 per cent, while 33 per cent of respondents said they were undecided.
Meanwhile, the poll shows Hassan Joho leads in the Coast region with 60 per cent, Gladys Wanga tops Nyanza with 35 per cent, while Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is the preferred choice in Western Kenya with 28 per cent.
Ruku backs Kindiki
Meanwhile, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has warned those salivating for the DP position to keep off as he believes Kindiki is the right candidate.
“Those looking for seats should not bother with the presidency or the deputy presidency. That seat belongs to Kindiki. There is no vacancy now, and there will be no vacancy in 2027,” Ruku said recently.
“We respect the broad-based government for the sake of unity and development across the country. But on the seat of the Deputy President, we cannot bargain. It belongs to Kindiki, and we will stand with him until he ascends to the presidency.”
