Nyandarua senator John Methu has claimed that there was a plan to kill him in order for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to postpone the Ol Kalou by-election.
The senator was DCP’s chief as Rigathi Gachagua’s party battled the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the mini-polls held on July 16.
Speaking in an interview with Kameme TV on Monday, July 20, 2026, Methu lauded the Ol Kalou constituents, saying they made him a man of respect.
“I was tipped that there was a plot to kill me so that the IEBC could be forced to postpone the by-elections,” Methu said.
“The people of Ol Kalou have made me a respectable person and have encouraged me to be brave,” he said.
Methu defends IG
While criticising Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for the chaos witnessed in Ol Kalou, Methu defended the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja.
“The IG as a person was willing to protect the Ol Kalou by-election because all the uniformed officers were willing and had the orders to protect the elections,” the senator said.
“The problem is that the Inspector General organised 1,000 police officers, and his superior, who is the Interior Minister, organised goons. When the goons arrived at the voting centres, they fought both the voters and the uniformed officers.”
