A motion seeking to adjourn proceedings of the Senate which held a special sitting Monday morning in an attempt to unlock the revenue sharing stalemate got an overwhelming bipartisan support as the legislators demanded that Senators Cleopahs Malala (Kakamega), Christopher Langat and Ltumbesi Lelegwe (Samburu) are produced by the Inspector General of Police.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei moved the adjournment motion, seconded by Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni), and got the unanimous support of Senators from across the political divide.
Speaker after speaker, they lamented how there was an attempt to undermine the independence of Parliament ahead of the contentious vote, many a Senator saying the trio had been arrested to balance the numbers.
Speaker Kenneth Lusaka directed the standing committee on national security to convene immediately and summon the relevant government officers on the issue and report back to the House at 2.30pm.
The adjournment came shortly after Senator Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) informed the Senate that Senator Langat had been arrested after surrendering from his house and was being driven to a police station in the company of his lawyer – Nelson Havi – also the president of the Law Society of Kenya.
