The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released an update on the probe into the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The detectives have revealed that three police officers are persons of interest in the murder probe. Speaking during a media briefing on Friday, August 7, 2026, DCI director Mohamed Amin said investigations involving forensic experts, intelligence officers, and homicide detectives had established the officers’ involvement through ballistic evidence, CCTV analysis, and intelligence-led enquiries.
Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang, the officer in charge of Nderi Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station, has been identified as the link between the financiers and the operational team.
According to the DCI Director, the officer was also identified as the source of the firearm used in the killing and is currently being sought by investigators.
Amin further said Police Constable Elijah Kibelion Kimoi, who is attached to Karinde Police Post under the same station, had been arrested after investigators linked him to the shooting.
“He is the individual identified as having fatally shot Dr Mutiso,” Amin told the press.
PC Collins Bett Kiplangat of Thogoto Police Post has also been identified as another person of interest.
Motive of murder
According to DCI, investigators established that the motive behind the killing stemmed from a dispute over land parcel LR No. 1504/13, where Dr Mutiso had placed a caveat.
“Through the interrogation of key witnesses and a detailed analysis of evidence, particulars of which cannot be fully disclosed at this stage due to the principle of sub judice, the matter currently being before the court, investigators have established that the elimination of the victim was driven by a long-standing land dispute culminating in Civil Suit No. ELC/E111/2025 filed by Rose Mbithe Mulwa at Machakos Law Courts,” the DCI stated.
