A man who has been walking around as a police officer has been arrested at a Yaya Centre in Nairobi.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the police impersonator is in custody after detectives swiftly responded to a distress call at L’Arc Casino within Yaya Centre, Kilimani, on Monday, August 3, 2026.
A firearm with 100 rounds of ammunition and an assortment of police-related items were also recovered.
“The suspect, Philemon Kiplangat Chepkwony, was arrested inside a black motor vehicle, registration number KCJ 468Z. A search conducted during the arrest led to the recovery of a CZ 75 SP-01 pistol, an empty 9mm magazine, a pair of handcuffs, a fake Certificate of Appointment (COA) identifying him as a Police Constable, and a fake firearm certificate,” DCI said in a statement.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect led officers to his rented house in Waluku Village, Dagoretti North, where detectives recovered 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition packed in two boxes, each containing 50 rounds.”
The police added that the suspect is undergoing processing pending arraignment as detectives intensify investigations to establish the source of the recovered firearm and ammunition and to determine the full extent of his alleged impersonation activities.
“Meanwhile, the recovered items and the impounded motor vehicle have been secured as exhibits.”
Bhang seized
In Molo, the police managed to seize bhang worth over a million and arrested a suspected peddler.
“A 45-year-old narcotics peddler in the Munju area, Molo, had his morning sleep abruptly cut short after a joint team of officers raided his house, recovering a stash of Cannabis sativa valued at over Ksh1 million,” a statement by the police said.
“In the crack-of-dawn operation executed by Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives based in Molo, alongside officers from Molo Police Station, the homestead of Eric Asande Albert was raided.”
“Caught completely flat-footed, the suspect was swiftly rounded up before officers turned one of his rooms inside out, discovering the illicit cargo concealed and ready for the market: 1 full sack of cannabis, 55 five-kilogram blue carrier bags stuffed to capacity with the herb and 1 half-filled sack of cannabis.”
The law enforcers added that the total haul, weighing 35.7 kilograms with a street value of Ksh1,071,000, was secured and detained as exhibits.
“Albert is currently cooling his heels at Molo Police Station as detectives finalise his file for a date with the courts.”
