Police have confirmed that 14 people linked to the chaos that disrupted Linda Mwananchi rallies in both Kisumu and Nyahururu have been arraigned in court.

In a statement released on July 13, 2026, police said the suspects face relevant charges a day after the chaos was reported in both towns.

“The National Police Service informs the public that 14 suspects arrested in connection with the recent violence and unrest in Kisumu and Nyahururu were arraigned in court today, 13th July, to face the relevant charges,” the police statement read.

“The National Police Service will not tolerate violence, hooliganism, or any disruption of public peace. We remain steadfast in our duty to maintain law and order. Let it be clear: those who choose chaos will be met with the full force of the law.

Commitment

The police further assured the public of their unwavering commitment to ensuring the security of people and their property.

“We reaffirm our commitment to serving and protecting all Kenyans, residents, and visitors. Our officers continue to work tirelessly to safeguard lives, property, and businesses across the country,” the statement added.

“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant, cooperate fully with security agencies, and report any suspicious activity at the nearest police station.”

Earlier arrests

On July 12, police had reported that eight suspects had already been arrested following the chaos.

“In Nyahururu Town, a group of individuals attempted to disrupt a political rally by throwing stones, causing minor injuries to several members of the public, including one Joseph Gitau, who sustained a chest injury and was treated and discharged,” police added.

“The Service strongly condemns these acts of political intolerance, violence and goonism. Such incidents undermine public order, threaten national cohesion and violate citizens’ constitutional rights to peacefully associate, assemble and participate in political activities,” the statement said.

“Following swift police intervention, eight suspects were arrested and placed in custody pending arraignment in court,” the statement said.

Police further reiterated that no person – regardless of social status, political affiliation or public office – is above the law.

“Anyone found engaging in violence, sponsoring criminal gangs, inciting supporters or disrupting lawful gatherings will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law,” the police affirmed.
