Nairobi, Kenya Jan 10 – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a High Court Lawyer for engaging in forgery.
The advocate was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly forging the official stamp and signature of an EACC Advocate on his court documents and using the same to fraudulently secure Court Orders against the anti-graft agency.
The suspect, who practices as Bigambo & Bigambo Advocates in Westlands, is currently in custody at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station pending arraignment.
“He is currently in custody at EACC Police Station and will be shortly presented before Milimani Anti-Corruption Court to face criminal charges,” EACC said Tuesday.
Court documents show Bigambo is facing four counts for his crime.
In the first charge, the prosecution argues, Bigambo & Bigambo Advocates Office in Nairobi’s Westlands area with the intent to deceive, embossed a false stamp impression in the name of Grace Wambui Maina Advocate and Commissioner of Oaths on a supporting Affidavit for the purposes of commissioning by purporting it to be a genuine stamp impression of the commissioner on February,10 last year.
On the same day, Bigambo is also accused of forging a signature on the supporting affidavit in the name of Maina purporting it to be her genuine signature.
On February 11 last year, the prosecution further argues that Bigambo knowingly and fraudulently uttered a forged electronic record (Scanned Miscellaneous Application) through Anti-corruption and Economic Crime Division of High Court e-filling systems purporting to be genuine Miscellaneous Application Commissioned by Maina.
In the fourth charge, Bigambo is accused of giving false information to a person employed in the Public Service contrary to Section 129(a) of the penal code.
