Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Martha Koome says 2023 is the year when all courts will attain the strategic target to ensure that no cases remain in a trial court for more than three years.
In her New Year’s message to Kenyans, Koome said she will endeavor to lead her fellow officers in the courts to keep the commitment to have all cases on appeals heard and determined in one year.
The CJ noted that they will be focusing on phasing out, case backlog-enabling vocabulary, and actions by having every case file tracked to ensure that matters are not stuck in court at any stage.
She said the Judiciary’s infrastructural and digitization agenda remains on track adding that the continued roll-out of the Small Claims Courts and the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Courts will facilitate the delivery of justice for vulnerable groups.
The CJ noted that the Judiciary has made major strides toward attaining the goal of building the Judiciary as an independent, efficient, and people-centered institution.
