Former Chief Justice David Maraga has joined the Linda Mwananchi movement’s Kisii tour, fuelling speculation of a possible merger ahead of the 2027 elections.
The opposition outfit held its first meeting in Kitutu Chache South Constituency on Friday, July 3, 2026, where several leaders addressed the attendees.
The 2027 presidential hopeful first held a meeting at an undisclosed place with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and other leaders.
Previously, Maraga held similar talks with Azimio Secretary General and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi as he broadened his political net.
Linda Mwananchi held various stopover meetings across Kisii County; a 10am meeting with women leaders at Monarch Mosocho, a 1pm rally in Kisii Town, a 3pm stop in Keumbu and a 4pm meeting in Keroka are expected to conclude the programme.
Pressure on Linda Mwananchi leaders
Recently, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa asked senators Edwin Sifuna, Godfrey Osotsi, Governor James Orengo, and others to leave the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and fully align with the Linda Mwananchi faction.
“We are in the opposition; ODM went into government. What we are saying is that ODM should leave government; if it does not, then those in ODM who believe in Linda Mwananchi should leave the broad-based arrangement and come back to the opposition so that we get back to the factory settings,” Wamalwa said in a recent interview.
