Kipipiri Member of Parliament (MP) Wanjiku Muhia has asked for public support in raising Ksh1.5 million after she was fined by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The lawmaker found herself on the wrong side of the law following what the electoral body said were controversial remarks made by the MP.
“Following the IEBC judgment requiring a payment of Ksh1.5 million, I have been deeply humbled by the overwhelming messages of solidarity from friends, supporters, and well-wishers,” Muhia wrote on her Facebook page.
“This support is more than just a financial contribution, but a reaffirmation from the public that only the registered voters of Ol Kalou shall determine their next Member of Parliament,” Muhia stated.
Why IEBC fined MP
According to the IEBC, the lawmaker broke the Electoral Code of Conduct by making the remarks during a political rally in Nyandarua County.
The IEBC’s Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee delivered the ruling on Friday, July 10, 2026, sitting at the commission’s headquarters in Nairobi, and it was delivered by Commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana.
“The committee has established that the respondent has violated paragraph 6A. The complaint has been proved on the balance of probabilities, being the standard applicable to these quasi-judicial proceedings,” the committee ruled.
“Condemns and directs the Hon’ble Wanjiku Muhia to pay a fine of Kenya shillings 1,500,000 to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission within 72 hours of the reading of this judgement.”
Muhia has been a key figure for the DCP party in the ongoing campaigns in the Ol Kalou constituency, where by-elections have been scheduled for July 16.
