President William Ruto has laughed at Rigathi Gachagua’s claims that the Head of State has completely lost the Mount Kenya vote basket.

Recently, Gachagua said the voters in the region are waiting to punish Ruto at the ballot after overwhelmingly voting for him in the last election.

Ruto, on Sunday, July 5, 2026, while attending a church service at the Full Gospel Church Gatunduri in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County, maintained that he is capable of getting the votes again in 2027.

Mimi nilikuja hapa nikaomba kura zenu, mnakumbuka? Mliniona nikiomba kura zenu? Si nilikuja hapa Embu nikaomba kura? Nikakuja hapa kanisani nikawaambia mniombee? Si mkanipatia kura zenu, ama?” Ruto asked.

Gachagua warns Ruto

Recently, the former Deputy President claimed that Ruto would not manage to get even one thousand votes from any constituency within the vote-rich Mount Kenya region.

Kura ya kufukuza mtu ni tamu. The mountain people love that vote. Ya kufukuza mtu aende nyumbani, wanafurahia sana,” Gachagua said.

Na wewe, William Ruto, I want to tell you, hujui hawa watu wa mlima. Wewe endelea kumwaga pesa yako hapa vile unamwaga Ol Kalou. Haujui hawa watu. Hapa mlimani, there is no constituency ambayo Ruto atafikisha kura elfu moja,” he remarked.

Ruto and Gachagua are now political nemeses despite the bromance that preceded the 2022 elections. Gachagua turned into a big critic of the president, especially after he was impeached as DP in 2024.
