Morara Kebaso: Matiang'i is the best option as opposition's presidential flagbearer

Political activist Morara Kebaso has claimed the United Opposition has the best chance of beating William Ruto in the presidential race if they pick the Jubilee Party’s Fred Matiang’i.

The Borabu Constituency parliamentary aspirant made the remarks during an interview on the Oga Obinna Show on the night of Monday, June 29, 2026.

“When I look at all people who can potentially be presidential candidates, when I look at the United Opposition, na niangalie wale watu wanaweza kuwa presidential candidates, for me, Matiang’i is the best option,” Kebaso said.

Kebaso further revealed why he is betting on the former Interior Cabinet Secretary as the best man to take on the incumbent in the 2027 presidential race.

“He comes with less baggage; he comes with an excellent track record of performance. If you weigh, you will find that Fred Matiang’i has an excellent performance record. You can actually trust him to work on something,” Kebaso added.

Will Matiang’i go it alone?

Kebaso stated that should the opposition outfit settle on another candidate, then Matiang’i is likely to go alone.

“He needs a deputy, maybe from Ukambani or Western. If the United Opposition brings a Kalonzo-Sifuna presidential ticket, then Matiang’i is going to run alone. If Matiang’i runs for president alone, he even stands a better chance. Very good chance, because he will be running on a clean record; he will not be carrying dead weight,” he added.

Matiang’i is among the top principals in the United Opposition ranks alongside former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa.
