NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 12 – The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has warned that selling Home DNA test kits is illegal.
The Board’s Chief Executive Officer Fred Siyoi through a statement on Thursday afternoon said that selling of the Home DNA test kits being marketed on digital platforms has not been authorized by the board.
Siyoi also asked members of the public to report to the board any retailer found selling the related products.
“Please note that the Pharmacy and Poisons Board has not authorized any retailer to sell such kits and hereby appeal to be on the look out for retailers marketing the kits,” he stated.
Since the begining of the year social media has been filled with discussions of the cheap Home DNA kit, with a section of Kenyans welcoming the news as a good move into ascertaining the paternity of their kin.
Others were of the contrary opinion that the cheap kit would break marriages.
Various social media users indicated that the kit retails between sh 750 to sh 800.
