Football Kenya Federation Western branch Secretary Kelvin Mwangu is fighting integrity questions following allegations of failing to account for thousands of shillings, being fine money from clubs sanctioned for various disciplinary grounds.
One such case that has been the subject of serious political fodder in the region involves an incident related to the match between Mayenje Santos FC and New WECO FC on 28 September 2019.
Mayenje were fined KSh25,000 after being found guilty of hooliganism and msiconduct by their fans, player and coach. The player and coach were suspended for five matches and one year respectively, while the club was ordered to past KSh10,000 to the federation and a further KSh15,000 for the repair of the visiting team’s bus that was damaged by Mayenje FC supporters.
Mayenje paid the money, sent to Mwangu through his M-Pesa in two installments but the FKF official is alleged to have used the money.
New WECO have lamented failure to have their bus fixed while Mayenje have complained and even vowed to not honour any league matches until Mwangu remits the money and is held accountable for failure to submit the money given to him on behalf of the federation.
On Saturday, 1 February 2020, Mayenje FC declined to kick ball until their money was remitted by Mwangu who went into hiding and efforts by Kurunzi to reach him proved futile.
Mwangu is a close ally of FKF president Nick Mwendwa.
Mwendwa’s opponents have led calls for him and his allies, including Mwangu, to be barred from contesting for leadership in the federation over integrity issues.
