The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) extended the traffic disruption along the Eastern bypass by two days.
In a notice dated Tuesday, January 31, KURA stated that the disruption would commence from 6:00 am on Thursday, February 2 to 6:00 pm on Friday, February 3.
The disruption would affect the stretch from China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) site camp to the Embakasi barracks heading towards Mombasa Road.
According to KURA, the reason behind the extension was to allow the completion of the maintenance works along the road.
“We wish to notify the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Eastern Bypass as from 6:00 am on Thursday, February 2, till 6:00 pm on Friday, February 3.
“This is to allow the contractor to lay the final surface dressing at the section between Embakasi Barracks and CRBC site camp as shown in the sketch below,” the statement read in part.
Motorists were advised to drive with caution as they approached the section of the road. Traffic marshals and police would also be on-site to enhance a steady flow of traffic.
The announcement caused an uproar from a section of motorists who lamented about the traffic situation along the road.
“Can you guys end this nonsense? Two days of terrible traffic and no significant activities going on but parked cars. It’s sickening,” read a comment from Arap Kibet.
In conclusion, KURA urged motorists to be patient as the maintenance works are in the final stages.
“..the contractor has done surface dressing on one lane, we are now on the second lane, kindly be patient as we endeavour to Enhance Urban Mobility,” KURA stated.
The Authority also affirmed that their team would adhere to the time stipulated and not cause further inconvenience along the road.
In an earlier statement dated Sunday, January 29, KURA announced a traffic disruption ending on Wednesday, February 1.
The disruption, however, saw hundreds of motorists and passengers held in a heavy traffic snarl-up as the grid-lock began building up early in the morning and stretched for several kilometres.
The situation worsened after a section of motorists attempted to overlap affecting traffic flow on both ways for hours.
