A section of Kenyans have asked the government to be realistic in its efforts to combat the rising cost of living.
Those who spoke to Capital Newsbeat challenged the government to roll out tangible solutions to help ease the situation.
Kevin, a hawker in the city, raised an alarm over the high cost of living saying the government’s state-organized prayers cannot solve the nation’s challenges like drought.
“The cost of living is high; prices are going high every day. For instance, a few years ago, we were buying one tomato at five bobs, right now one tomato is ten bobs.” Kelvin lamented.
Juma Otieno, another Kenyan citizen, implored President William Ruto to unify all the country’s leaders in his pursuit to lower the cost of living.
“We went for an election and it seems our country is in an election mood, Azimio is holding rallies. What is the head of state doing about this? He should go to the side and call for unity and drive Kenya as one nation. They should give us one Kenya not divided; it will be very successful.” Otieno challenged the Head Government.
He further challenged the ongoing state prayers, saying that they cannot provide amicable solutions to the challenges Kenya is facing.
“I am really against the prayers the government is holding as a solution to what we are going through.” Juma Otieno said.
