Kenya Airways has suspended flights to Dubai and Sharjah after the United Arab Emirates closed its airspace following US and Israeli military strikes on Iran.
The national carrier confirmed the suspension on 28 February 2026. It cited safety concerns linked to threats of Iranian counter-strikes targeting US bases across the Gulf region.
Flights KQ310 and KQ305 have been cancelled. Scheduled cargo services on the same routes are also affected. No date for resumption has been given.
“We wish to inform our customers that we have temporarily suspended flights to Dubai and Sharjah until further notice due to the UAE airspace closure.”
Escalating regional tensions
The strikes followed the collapse of nuclear negotiations in Geneva. US President Donald Trump confirmed the launch of “major combat operations” against Iran. He described the campaign as “massive and ongoing.”
The United States and Israel launched the joint offensive on 28 February 2026. The strikes prompted immediate airspace closures across parts of the Gulf, disrupting commercial aviation routes serving the UAE.
Kenya Airways apologised for the disruption. The airline said it would contact affected passengers directly and provide the necessary assistance.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding.”
The airline added that the situation remains fluid. Further updates will be issued as more information becomes available. Passengers are urged to monitor official Kenya Airways channels on X and Facebook for the latest developments.
