Kiambu Deputy Governor James Nyoro has declared taking charge of county affairs after his boss – Ferdinand Waititu, was barred from office by the anti-corruption court following corruption charges against him.
Judge Lawrence Mugambi ordered that Waititu be barred from accessing his office after facing corruption charges in a scandal over more than KSh600 million in which his own company is accused of receiving kickbacks in a road construction tender and others for goods and services.
“We have had our first meeting and we are ready to work together. I am now in charge and the CECs and all county officials are ready to work with me,” he said.
Nyoro maintained his focus would be to ensure service delivery was more efficient, allaying fears he would kick out officials sympathetic to the embattled governor.
“At this point, we are not talking about making changes, but we will work together as a team.
“For a long time, we have driven facing backwards and if you do so definitely at one point, there will be an accident. What we want to see in Kiambu county is accountability and transparency.”
