Uncertainty surrounds the Football Kenya Federation elections after the Sports Disputes Tribunal shot down an objection to have a petition challenging the process heard and determined.
Jared Nyauma Ondieki, the chairman of Nyamira sub-branch moved to the tribunal seeking to nullify the elections, saying the constituted FKF electoral board was improperly constituted.
He is challenging the eligibility of the chairman – Professor Wamukoya and Ms Elynah Sifuna-Shiveka, the SDT vice chairperson, to be included in the electoral.
Ms Shiveka has been excluded from sitting in the tribunal while the matter, which will be heard on 5 November 2019, is ongoing.
He (the applicant) also wants the electoral code trashed and a new one crafted with the participation of all stakeholders.
The SDT threw the process into disarray by directing that although the board would continue to receive nominations from aspirants, such nominations remain invalid as long the matter is pending before the SDT.
Several aspirants, including former president Sam Nyamweya and former Vihiga governor Moses Akaranga – both who have expressed interest in unseating Nick Mwendwa as president of the federation; declined to present their nomination papers by the Wednesday deadline, saying they will not legitimize a process that was already predetermined.
They say they will push for the entire exercise to be started afresh, with the participation of all stakeholders.
