NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 30 – National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njunguna Ndung’u has gazetted the eCitizen portal to be the official government digital payments platform.

The move comes as President William Ruto plans to migrate all the government services to the digital platform in the next 6-12 months.

The Government Digital Payments is aimed at increasing revenue collection and minimizing the cost of collection and enhancing service delivery.

It ensures that Citizens, non-citizens, and Business entities can access Government Services online and make payments electronically using Paybill Number 222-222 from wherever they may be in the world.

Ndun’gu says the official identifier of citizens shall be one’s National Identity Card Number; foreigners shall use an Alien Identity Card Number

The National Treasury CS said the digital payments platform is integrated with all available electronic payments platforms in Kenya, including mobile money telephone payment services.
