The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi for questioning tomorrow over false information on an alleged police raid at his Karen home.
The agency stated that it is investigating allegations of Publication of False Information contrary to section 23 of the computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act 2018 amongst other offences in regard to alleged raid at his home on February 9.
“I have reasons to believe that you, Dr. Fred Matiangi, the former Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Co-ordination, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations,” reads the summon from Michael Sang, a Senior Superintendent of police attached to DCI Headquarters, Serious Crime Unit.
The agency said that failure to comply with the requisition constitutes an offence liable to prosecution.
This comes two days after the agency summoned Matiangi’s lawyer Danstan Omari over what it described as false claims on a similar charge.
Detectives asked Omari, who said he had a brief from Matiangi at the time of the alleged raid, to present himself to the DCI Headquarters on Kiambu Road.
He was required to shed more light into his claims that security agencies had raided the home of his client on February 9.
“I have reasons to believe that you, Danstan Omari, an Advocate of the High court of Kenya, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations,” read a notice served on Tuesday read in part.
During the alleged raid which authorities denied, Omari who addressed the media from Matiangi’s Karen the home claimed that his client’s life was at risk and accused police of harassment.
“We don’t know the intention of wanting to invade Matiangi’s home at this time of the night. We don’t know where they want to, we don’t know what offense he has committed arrest him and where they want to take him to,” Omari said.
He claimed that he was accompanied by at least 200 lawyers at Matiangi’s home to protect his client.
“We will remain steadfast to defend our client. We are ready to be arrested all of us so long as Matiangi is safe,” he charged in an event that received live television coverage.
