Barclay’s Bank is facing a wave of robberies targeting their ATM’s at Mutindwa, Mater Hospital and Kenyatta National Hospital.
The three incidents, similarly executed, were reported separately at Capital Hill, Buruburu and Industrial Area police stations.
Out of the three, incidents which occured at different times within two days, Mutindwa lost the highest amount at KSh6.2 million while the ATM at Mater Hospital lost KSh1m. The one at KNH had KSh4.3m go missing.
Curiously, the Barclay’s ATM at Mutindwa does not have CCTV installation and is not manned by any security guards. Security firm, G4S, offer security services to Barclay’s Bank.
According to the reports obtained by Kurunzi, the three incidents were all reported by G4S officers, George Ogiro (Buruburu), Wilson Mzedi (Capital Hill) and Nickson Oluoch (Industrial Area).
“A crew commander of G4S reported that on 18/4/2019 loaded Mutindwa ATM machine within Mutindwa with KSh7 million and today on 20/4/2019 they received information that the ATM was not operational,” it was recorded at the OB book in Buruburu.
“They opened the machine and found KSh6,290,000 missing.”
OB number 25/20/04/2019 at Capital Hill police station read in part: “… A report from Kenyatta National Hospital Barclay’s ATM system was not working.
“Maintenance personnel (Henry Maleva) was sent to check on the machine and on arrival and close checking,he established that the ATM had been tampered electronically and KSh4.315 million stolen.”
The report at Industrial Area police station, with regards to the Mater Hospital ATM that G4S officers were sent by “their logistics manager to service” the ATM.
“… But on arrival at around 0900hrs they discovered that the said ATM had been tampered with and KSh1 million withdrawn erroneously.
“The CCTV camera at the same point was found smeared with petroleum jelly to obstruct view.”
No arrests have been made so far.
