A domestic dispute turned tragic in Kiganjo estate, Thika, after a man poured acid on his ‘estranged’ wife and their two sons in an attack that claimed all their lives. They all died while undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
The man, identified as Martin Kamau, allegedly attacked Phylis Wambui, and their children on Friday night following a domestic disagreement. The children are Terrence Waweru (4), and Talan Kamau (6),
According to family members, the incident stemmed from a long-standing domestic dispute between the couple, who had reportedly been separated for several months.
Kamau died on Friday evening alongside the older child at Thika Level 5 Hospital. The second child succumbed to injuries en route to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment on Saturday afternoon.
Wambui, who had earlier been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Gatundu Level 5 Hospital died on Saturday before midday while receiving treatment.
Thika West sub-county police boss, John Kimanthi, confirmed the incident, saying preliminary reports showed that the father had sent the children to the shop before the attack.
“When the children returned, they reportedly found their parents quarrelling. Upon entering the house, the suspect allegedly poured acid on them,” he said.
Neighbours, alerted by screams and commotion, called police who rushed the victims to Thika Level 5 Hospital while unconscious.
