South Africans are bracing for a roller coaster ride of emotions when Bafana Bafana face Czechia at Atlanta Stadium in a crunch 2026 FIFA World Cup Group A match that is expected to provide several twists and turns.
The South African senior men’s national team will be determined to return to winning ways and coach Hugo Broos described this is as a massive encounter following the 0-2 defeat to tournament co-hosts Mexico in the opening match of the global event a few days ago.
“It will be a very important game tomorrow. If you do not lose you still have a chance, but if you lose, then it will be decided by calculations based on what happens in the other groups. For me this game is decisive and important, and if you lose it will be very difficult,” he said.
Themba Zwane has been suspended

“First of all, I think that the red card is too severe. I saw the situation where Themba got the red card, I don’t think it was a red card.
“When I saw what happened with Messi yesterday (the Argentinean escaped a red card during the South Americans’ 3-0 win against Algeria following a studs-up challenge on Aissa Mandi), I don’t agree, certainly not. I think there was not even a VAR with Messi,” Broos said.
Bottom of Group A before the second matchday, South Africa can no longer afford any mistakes if they want to continue their World Cup journey.
