The Directorate of Criminal Investigations says they are not involved in the ongoing probe over the multi-billion scandal at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency.
A source has told Kurunzi that contrary to widespread media reports in the press, it is the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission that is investigating the issue of how billions of money meant for COVID-19.
“We are not involved in this matter and the narrative that we are involved is false, maybe the issue is being handled by other agencies of state but we have no brief about that investigation,” the source told Kurunzi on condition of anonymity.
“This is meant to suggest that DCI is to blame if the probe fails or is slow and therefore against public expectations.”
Following an exposé by NTV and their sister newspaper – Daily Nation, on how COVID-19 billions have been lost through fraudulent procurement, the KEMSA board suspended the CEO and a senior manager as other institutions including parliament started probing the matter.
Media reports have suggested the EACC is already seeking further details over the issue but no official position has been announced yet.
