Police in Nairobi raided and closed a children’s home in Kibra area following confirmation of reports of child molestation.
Five boys seeking refuge at the Kings and Queens Children’s Home were confirmed to have been sexually abused after medical examination, with doctors blowing the whistle even as the home’s administration sought to sweep the misdeeds under the carpet.
Following the Friday morning police raid, the children were taken to government children homes after short interviews with the police and child welfare officers.
The doctor who examined the five boys, speaking to Citizen TV on condition of anonymity, said the harrowing experiences for the boys seem to have started long ago.
What got her to speak up was the deliberate attempt by the children’s home to silence the boys and try to conceal the happenings.
“The home was not cooperative when we sought to give these boys post rape care because it was clear from the conversation that this was done against their will,” she aid.
Efforts to reach the administrator of the home proved futile despite having been released after being questioned by police on Friday.
On Saturday all 15 children rescued from Kings and Queens Children’s home, who have since been transferred to a government facility, were taken to Nairobi Women’s Hospital for examination.
Police are trying to establish whether someone deliberately introduced the children to the act before deciding whether there is a criminal case.
The home had 11 boys and four girls at the time of the raid.
