Germany’s Denis Undav is the new leader in the race for the adidas Golden Boot, awarded to the top scorer at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The German’s game-winning double off the bench against Côte d’Ivoire and his goal and two assists in Germany’s first match against Curaçao have pushed him to the top of the charts, just in front of three-goal duo Lionel Messi and Canada forward Jonathan David.

The Argentina ace, appearing at his sixth FIFA World Cup, struck a hat-trick in the defending champions’ 3-0 victory over Group J rivals Algeria at Kansas City Stadium, moving him level with Miroslav Klose as the tournament’s all-time leading scorer.

David struck a treble of his own in the co-hosts’ 6-0 triumph against Qatar in Vancouver on 18 June.

A number of big names are on the shoulder of the leading trio, including Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.
