Playing with vigour and confidence, Shabana found their winning touch with a deserved 2-1 over visiting Ushuru FC 2-1 in a National Super League match staged at Gusii Stadium.
It was a perfect performance for the home team who came from behind to weather the storm and register the memorable win before a good turn that broke to song and dance after the final whistle.
The visitors coached by Ken Kenyatta had scored a goal in the 45th minute through Brian Otieno, who capitalised on defensive lapse by
Shabana defenders.
Shabana regrouped in the second stanza and their efforts were rewarded in the 52nd minute through Hamisi Ahadi, a goal that sparked massive pressure from each side to secure the winner.
With fans cheering them, Ushuru were hit with a sucker punch in the 65th minute when Bob Mugalia and Ahadi combined well for a delightful move, setting up Daniel Murage to net the winner amid thunderous cheers from the home fans.
Shabana were still reeling from a controversial 1-1 draw against Wazito, while Ushuru went into Saturday’s match on the back of a 3-0
victory against Thika United in the last round of matches.
Ushuru coach Ken Kenyatta was not amused by the match officiating where he felt he was denied a clean goal, which he said was disallowed for no apparent reason.
“I am deeply disappointed. The worst result could have been a draw. We were disallowed a clean goal. We enjoyed large chunks of the match and ball possession than our hosts. The manner we have lost the match is
unbelievable but I am happy with my players performance,” said Kenyatta.
Shabana head coach Gilbert Selebwa, who was under pressure to win, was all smiles after the match, attributing the win from the massive support of the home fans.
Shabana next fixture is against Eldoret Youth, while Ushuru will host Administration Police in Nairobi on Wednesday.
