Police officer arrested over possible human trafficking

A police officer attached to the Regional Commander North Eastern Region is being detained at Pangani police station over suspected human trafficking after being arrested on Sunday morning. Police were acting on prior information.

Edwin Sawe was nabbed after refusing to stop at a road block mounted by his colleagues at Nairobi’s Thika Superhighway. He was driving a black Subaru Outback, with five other occupants, including two minors.

“”The officers gave chase and managed to intercept the suspicious vehicle at the Pumwani roundabout after firing one round of 7.62mm ammunition,” read the OB report at the police station.

“It was then established then established that the driver was a police officer […] On board the said motor vehicle were the following.

“Sammy Maingi Mutetu, aged 37 years, Ahmed Mohammed Abdilleh – a Somali national aged 30 years.”

Two minors – Hafsa Yusuf and Hassan Noor were also in the vehicle alongside 20-year old Bishar Farah Maalim.

All the suspects are being held alongside the Administration police officer pending further investigations.

Police also recovered car plate numbers – GK B422J, and a work ticket last signed in June 2018.
