Persons living with disabilities in Nyamira County want Governor John Nyagarama to immediately stop the ongoing payroll cleaning which they say is disadvantaging their group.
Through their umbrella body, Nyamira Society for Persons Living with Disabilities, they raised a concern over which the exercise was being done without consultation or giving reasons why their people were being fired.
Through their chairman, Enoch Omwando, they gave the county government an ultimatum of 14 days to reinstate its members, failure to which they vowed to camp at Governor’s office until their plight is addressed.
“We are ready to come with our families and camp at the offices until our cry is heard, we will ensure that our plight is addressed even if it means spending weeks at the Governor’s offices until they give us attention,” said Omwando.
Omwando said the government had gone against their memorandum of understanding which they signed earlier on how their members could be absorbed in to the county government and feel the cleansing has been targeting their people.
Secretary general – Maranga Sangara, said the exercise was meant to witch hunt the disabled and discipline them for their frequent criticism.
He said that they are going to seek all avenues available to ensure that the payroll cleansing is stopped.
“We support the program but not the way its being done, people should be given a fair hearing on the payroll purge, let the process stop until a clear criteria is sought,” said Sangara.
“We will do a mother of all strikes that nobody has ever witnessed in this world,” said Jared Wilberforce, the group communication officer.
