Amani National Congress leader, Musalia Mudavadi, has insisted Deputy President William Ruto’s incessant trips to Western Kenya will not yield any fruits.
Ruto has been warning up himself to the region as he lays foundation for his 2022 presidential bid.
However, Mudavadi contends the residents are sharp enough not to be duped, and have the capacity to make informed decisions.
“You can take this to the bank. His frequent trips to the region will not yield results because western Kenya voters are not for sale,” Daily Nation quoted Mudavadi.
The opposition leader further dismissed Ruto’s supposed in-roads to his turf, insisting the second in command has not made any.
“The so-called inroads were made from 2013 to 2017, but what was the result of the 2017 elections?” the ANC leader posed.
Recently, Ruto received a number of politicians who have decamped to to his fold, including former Kakamega senator, Boni Khalwale, Trans-Nzoia governor Patrick Khaemba and Likuyani MP Enock Kibunguncy.
But Mudavadi remains adamant the defections have little impact, asserting the politicians are in pursuit of selfish interests.
“He is as good as the company he keeps. He’s not building serious political partnerships based on principles,” he noted.
