Kirinyaga Central MP Munene Wambugu on Monday urged Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to embrace dialogue in a bid to end the ongoing medics’ strike.
Operations at public hospitals were paralyzed after the medical fraternity went on strike on Wednesday, last week.
Mr Mûnene said the county chief should wallow her pride and open talks with health workers unions.
“Many patients have been forced to take their relatives to other hospitals including private ones and the move is somehow expensive. If you have the matters of Wanjiku at heart, it’s the high time you showed them,” he said.
Last week, Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Board CEO Daniel Yumbya gave the hospital a clean bill of health, paving way for it to continue admitting patients. The hospital was in a deplorable state before it was given a face-lift.
The outpatient is completely deserted as many have shunned seeking medical services from the facility.
The striking health workers claimed that the county government has declined to listen to their grievances which include rehiring of the 346 sacked casuals, pay unpaid salaries, enhance smooth promotion processes as well as provide conducive working environments.
Some laboratory equipments have broken down and are yet to be repaired.
