Ivy Wangechi, the slain Moi University medical student, who was hacked to death by a man aleged to be her boyfriend will be laid to rest on Thursday at her parents’ home in Othaya constituency, Nyeri County.
On Wednesday night, friends and relatives held an overnight vigil in her honour at Nyeri County, lighting candles and singing throughout the night preceding her burial.
“We are here to remind the whole country that no one deserves to die because of love,” said one of those at the vigil.
“Love is not a death trap and people should respect and accept that if it is not working then walk out.”
Wangechi was a sixth-year student when she was allegedly killed by Naftali Kinuthia in Eldoret.
Kinuthia has already been charged in court but the prosecution were granted their plea to have him in custody for 14 days pending investigation and compilation of his file.
He is being held at Naiberi Police Station and continues to be taken for treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Kinuthia reportedly traveled from Thika with an axe which he allegedly used to kill Wangechi in broad daylight before members of the public descended on him in anger but he was rescued by police.
