The key suspect in the murder of a female police officer attached to parliament police station has been arrested in Mount Elgon.
Erick Onyono Nyakundi, was nabbed after being trailed by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for almost one week.
He is the main suspect in the murder of police constable Hellen Kwamboka, who was found murdered in her Umoja estate house on Friday, 24 May. He is now being moved to Nairobi for arraigning on Monday, while funeral plans are underway for the deceased.
Kwamboka will be laid to rest at Kapomboi village, Kitale, Trans Nzoia County on Friday, 7 June.
During the trail, the suspect had been to his native home in Manga area of Nyamira County, Kisii, Kisumu and Bungoma before his arrest in Swarm as he tried to escape to Uganda.
Kurunzi understands the suspect has been using the deceased’s mobile phone to update her social media accounts, although he is believed to have changed the sim card but continued to use the handset, which helped the sleuths to track his movements.
Kwamboka was last seen on duty on 23 May but failed to report to work the following day, prompting her colleagues to look for her, especially after her phone was not going through.
Police officers visited her house only to be forced to break into her house where they found her lifeless body on the bed.
She had a deep cut on her head, a police report filed at Buruburu Police Station indicating that Kwamboka also bore strangulation marks on her neck.
No weapon was recovered at the scene.
It was suspected that she might have been killed by a man who visited her on the day that she was last seen.
However, it was not immediately clear how he carried out the attack since the officer’s house was locked from inside.
