AFC Leopards finally rediscovered their winning touch with a 1-0 win over visiting Sony Sugar in a tough Kenya Premier League match at Bukhungu Stadium.
Apart from collecting maximum points, Leopards managed to bounce back from a seven-game losing streak in all competitions with the result as well lifting the side off the bottom of the KPL Logo.
Leopards came into play a more refined side and in the 47th minute Whyvonne Isuza floated the ball in the box before new signing Wayi Yeka buried the ball for the solitary goal.
It turned out that the ball had deflected off Andrew Waiswa’s feet before hitting the back of the net but referee Zachariah Ashira awarded the goal to Yeka.
Leopards had lost six straight league games and adding to their loss to Simba SC in the SportPesa Cup, Ingwe had lost seven on the trot, their worst run in recent memory.
Sony coach Patrick Odhiambo blamed
AFC Leopards for time-wasting tactics while accusing his players for the loss, saying they should have converted the numerous scoring
opportunities they created.
“We were as good as our opponents. But the best team won at the end of the day,” he said.
A elated AFC Leopards coach said: “We played well. The journey has just started. I target to perform well in the second leg of the league.”
Both teams went all out in attack from the onset and the visitors could have taken the lead as early as the fifth minute when Derrick
Okanga’s header was parried over the cross bar by custodian Jairus Andira.
