Nairobi MCAs say they will not allow Beatrice Elachi to be their Speaker, what could turn out to be open defiance against a Court ruling which overturning her ouster.
Employment and Labour Relations Court on Tuesday reinstated her as the Assembly Speaker following a case she filed against the County Assembly after her impeachment.
Majority leader Abdi Guyo reiterates they still considered Elachi a stranger, whom they lost faith in and are not willing to work with her.
“As much as we respect the court ruling, Elachi cannot be our Speaker,” said Guyo.

In her ruling, Justice Maureen Onyango cited massive flaws when the MCAs impeached Elachi.
Minority whip Peter Imwatok asked Elachi to find another job because they are never going to accept her back.
“If members from both the minority and majority voted against her apart from only two who voted for her then that’s definitely a vote of no confidence. It’s not possible to lead people who don’t want you,” he said.
Elias Otieno, the majority leader, said a court ruling cannot overturn a procedure of the Assembly.
The Assembly already has an acting Speaker who has been in place since last year, after the dramatic ouster where Elachi was forcefully ejected from office.
The MCAs cited abuse of office, conflict of interest, undermining the authority of the County Public Service Board and failure to show leadership as the grounds for her removal.
