Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has continued with his attacks on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The two public figures have been on a warpath of words, and the exchange intensified before and after the June 25 anniversary demonstrations spearheaded by the opposition.
Speaking on Saturday, June 27, 2026, during a public event in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Murkomen explained why he thinks Gachagua fears him.
“The reason Gachagua fears me is that I know him, and I know he’s the father of violence in our country,” Murkomen said.
“Any person who is involved in recruiting gangs and criminals, we will deal with them decisively and in accordance with the law,” he warned.
“He has conned people for far too long, but I want to tell him, you can con some people some of the time, but you cannot con all the people all the time.”
Gachagua on goons
Before the anniversary demonstrations, Gachagua had warned that the government had planned to deploy goons and interfere with the protests.
“Unfortunately and sadly so, the real goons will not be arrested because they are organized by the government,” Gachaguia said in a statement on his X account.
“The police have clear instructions to allow goons to wreak havoc and only intervene later by arresting innocent people. Leaders in the opposition will be arrested later for allegedly financing the attacks,” the DCP party leader continued.
The former Mathira Member of Parliament also said that Murkomen was interfering in matters of the National Police Service.
“And in any case, the National Police Service is supposed to be independent. The minister should comment on policy. IG is in charge of operations. Why is Mr. Murkomen discussing police operations?
“He has taken over the National Police Service and created a parallel command. He has introduced goonism in the police service. He has forced police commanders to work with goons!” Gachagua stated.
