Champions League results: Shakhtar stun Barcelona as Milan overturn PSG

Danylo Sikan’s towering header gave Shakhtar Donetsk a 1-0 win against La Liga champions Barcelona in their Group H match. The 22-year-old forward gave the Ukrainian side, playing in Hamburg, a shock lead in the 40th minute against the 5 time European champions who dominated possession throughout.

Sikan jumped behind defender Andreas Christensen to meet a Giorgi Gocholeishvili cross from the right and nod the ball just out of reach of Marc-André ter Stegen in the Barça goal.

The defeat ended Barcelona’s 100% start to the group and enabled Porto to pull level on 9 points at the top after they beat ten man Royal Antwerp 2-0. Evanilson’s early penalty and a late strike from Pepe sealed victory for the hosts and left the Belgians, who had Jurgen Ekkelenkamp sent off in the 52nd minute, still hunting their first points.

After Borussia Dortmund sunk Newcastle 2-0 in Germany, Paris Saint-Germain lost hold on top spot of Group F after a 2-1 defeat at Milan. Olivier Giroud’s powerful header early in the second half secured a 2-1 fightback victory for the hosts in a pulsating match, securing the Italian side’s first win in this season’s competition.

The former Internazionale defender Milan Skriniar had put PSG ahead but their advantage lasted only 3  minutes before Rafael Leão netted an acrobatic equaliser via a bicycle kick. Giroud then sealed a precious victory just after the break in front of 75,649 at San Siro.

Manchester City booked their spot with a 3-0 win over Young Boys and RB Leipzig joined them by qualifying for the second round with two games to spare. Goals from Xavi Simons and Loïs Openda proved enough to give Leipzig a 2-1 win at Red Star Belgrade.

A first-half goal by Ciro Immobile handed Lazio a 1-0 home win over Feyenoord, keeping the Italian club’s knockout stage hopes alive as Maurizio Sarri’s side moved up to second in Group E. Lazio, who lost 3-1 in the reverse fixture, are second on seven points from four games, one point behind leaders Atlético Madrid who hammered Celtic 6-0 in the other group fixture.
