After several cases of escalating goonism in the country, President William Ruto has come out to declare a crackdown on them.
Ruto has said his government will use all mechanisms available to end the menace as the country gears towards the 2027 general elections.
‘We will end goonism’
“These goons, there are people who have been sympathetic to them. We are all now in agreement that we will end goonism in the country,” Ruto said on July 23, 2027, at State House when he hosted five thousand mechanics and artisans from Nairobi County.
“We are going to have a secure country, and all Kenyans will run their businesses without fear. The same way we dealt with terrorists and cattle rustlers is the same way we will deal with goons,” he said.
“All Kenyans will be free to do their business and do politics without interference from goons. Those terrorists who made life difficult for us, we annihilated them. Bandits and cattle rustlers are no more. Those who burnt businesses during demonstrations are no more also.”
Gachagua mocks Ruto’s order
Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has laughed off Ruto’s efforts to tackle goonism in the country.
“Mr. William Ruto, I have heard that today you ordered that goons and criminals be dealt with across the country. Fair enough. But is this the first time you are saying this? Who moves around Nairobi and the country with goons? Not you?” Gachagua asked.
“Anyway, Who will do it? You seem to have lost control of the country, and you have no idea what is happening in Kenya. The problem in the East African Haiti, formerly the Republic of Kenya, is not goons.”
‘Ministry of Goonism’
Gachagua further claimed that rogue officers are working with goons to cause chaos in the county.
“It is rogue police officers working with goons to terrorize Kenyans. They are under the direction of Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen and Raymond Omollo, whom you appointed to protect Kenyans in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, but which they have converted into a Ministry of Goonism and Coordination of Terror against Kenyans,” Gachagua claimed.
“It is either they are doing it with your authority, or you have absolutely no idea what is happening in the country of which you are supposed to be President.”
