President William Ruto has called out Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna for his stance on the government’s Affordable Housing Project.
Sifuna is a vocal opponent of the Kenya Kwanza administration and recently mocked the president’s pet project.
“They have built 12-storey Affordable Housing units in Funyula. We Luhyas cannot live in a place where our chickens cannot. Tell me, boss, how will your chicken get to the 12th floor?” Sifuna said.
Ruto answers Sifuna
While vehemently defending the housing project, Ruto said the leaders need to be considerate, as his sole aim is to improve the housing standards for Kenyans.
“There are people telling us that Kenyans should continue living in slums simply because a chicken cannot be taken to the 15th floor. Do these people really have any sense?” Ruto asked.
“These are the people who want to compete with me. When I told you they are brainless, you thought I was being unfair to them. We will continue with all these projects to better the lives of Kenyans,” Ruto added.
Hinga defends project
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga echoed the president’s sentiments and called out politicians opposed to the project.
“If there is something that really shocks me, it’s our politicians. Today, they stand for something; tomorrow, they don’t stand, just because they changed, maybe their political formation,” Hinga said.
“So today there was somebody who was pro-housing, and they talked about who has a problem with dignifying people who are in the slums. And then today they’re busy telling you not to get into those houses, because when we come into government, we’re going to take away those houses,” he said.
“How do you take away houses? This is not a favour you’re doing to people. So any Kenyan who wants to participate in this programme for housing, please do it confidently. There is nobody who will take away that, because if there is anything that is well protected in law, and in our Constitution, it’s a right to own,” he added.
