Interior and National administration Cabinet secretary Kithure kindiki,has declared the doctors’ industrial action as illegal by referring to the court order given on 3 April.
CS Kindiki said he is concerned that the participants of the KMPDU-led industrial action by health workers, continues to defy the said court order. He also noted that the same are intimidating and threatening health workers who are not taking part.
The Employment and Labour Relations court, had given directions to the parties that they engage in negotiation within fourteen days and thereafter file in court a memorandum of understanding.
CS Kindiki stated that, “the participants in the unlawful industrial action have repeatedly threatened to disrupt service delivery in health institutions, to interfere with the daily activities of the non-participating health workers and to undermine public order generally”.
Kindiki therefore declared that any industrial action by the doctors will not be allowed, “gatherings, protests or whatever other action(s) in pursuit of grievances outside the law and in breach of court directives undermines the constitutional order of the Country and are, therefore, not permissible.”
He finally directed the police to ensure strict maintenance of law and order to protect the general public and the health workers who are not participating in the industrial action.
