Jubilee Health Insurance has partnered with global insurtech firm Bolttech to roll out embedded insurance solutions. The plan is to expand access to health cover to those still uncovered. The deal will enable integration of health insurance into everyday consumer transactions.
Consumers will access insurance products through payments for fuel purchases, travel bookings and other digital platforms, eliminating the need to purchase cover separately.
Jubilee Health Insurance CEO remarks
Jubilee Health Insurance Chief Executive Officer and Principal Officer Njeri Jomo, while signing the partnership agreement said the collaboration is designed to bridge Kenya’s insurance protection gap by making health insurance more accessible and convenient.
“Our focus is to ensure insurance becomes part of everyday life rather than something people only think about when they need medical care. By embedding insurance into existing customer journeys, we can significantly expand access to affordable health protection,” Jomo said.
Jubilee Health has joined efforts to support Universal Health Coverage
She said the initiative aligns with Jubilee’s broader ambition of supporting universal health coverage.
Many Kenyans continue to rely on out-of-pocket payments for healthcare, exposing households to financial hardship when illness strikes.
“We are developing tailor-made products for different customer segments while leveraging technology to deliver them seamlessly. Our focus is not only on curative care but also on preventive solutions that keep people healthy,” she said.
Data shows that one million Kenyans experience catastrophic health expenditure every year, describing insurance as an important tool for strengthening household financial resilience.
Jubilee will leverage customer insights from ecosystem partners to integrate existing insurance products or co-create new offerings tailored to different consumer needs.
Jubilee Health Insurance Pipeline of new products
Among the first products expected under the initiative is HospiCash. This is a hospital cash benefit designed to provide policyholders with financial support during hospitalisation. Jubilee also plans to embed personal accident and funeral benefits into partner platforms, with pilot launches expected in the coming months.
The insurer is targeting underserved segments, including retail consumers and gig economy workers.
Bolttech’s role in increasing penetration
Bolttech Africa General Manager Bente Krogmann said the company’s technology platform enables insurers to distribute protection seamlessly.
“Our role is to ensure insurance becomes available within the services people are already using. Whether someone is buying a flight ticket, a bus ticket or making other digital transactions, protection should be available with just a click,” Krogmann said.
Experiences from markets in Southeast Asia show that embedded insurance can significantly improve uptake. This happens when products are simple, relevant and easy for consumers to understand.
Bolttech’s technology allows businesses to integrate insurance products within weeks through application programming interfaces (APIs). This will enable customers to purchase protection without disrupting their existing digital journeys.
The partnership combines Jubilee’s insurance underwriting expertise with Bolttech’s embedded insurance technology. Both firms are betting that this deal will expanding insurance penetration across the region.
