President Ruto to launch affordable housing project in 2-Day Nyanza tour

By

KISUMU, Kenya, Jan 12 – President William Ruto is set to launch an affordable housing project during a two-day tour of Nyanza region set to kick off from tomorrow.

Speaking during a press conference, State House Spokesman Hussein Mohamed indicated that the head of state will further commission different projects within the region.

He further stated that among the projects include the ground-breaking ceremony for the Affordable Housing programme in Homa Bay County.

“Tomorrow, the President will launch the first phase of the 5,000 affordable housing programme for Homa Bay County. The project is expected to not only alleviate the housing deficit the county, but also significantly boost the local economy. The project will ultimately cover several towns – Oyugis, Kendu Bay and Mbita,” he stated.

The visit will be Ruto’s second in the region after his inauguration as President in September last year.

The government spokesman further reiterated that the initiative will also create more jobs for the youth.

“As the President has said, the affordable housing programme, which is a key plank of the government’s economic transformational agenda, is not only about low-cost and decent housing needs, but also meant to create jobs for thousands of youth and stimulate the economy.”

He also stated that the President will also launch and inspect other projects in the
region, including commissioning the newly completed Homabay Municipal Market.

“The project is crucial to the economic transformation of the county, and will provide space for trade in agricultural products and thus boost the region’s economy,” he stated.
