Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned leaders who sponsor goons and violence.
According to Murkomen, who attended a church service in Mount Elgon, Bungoma County, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, the government will deal with such leaders relentlessly.
“Just as we have curbed terrorism, banditry, organized crime, and other security threats, we shall relentlessly pursue those who seek to destabilize our nation through goons and violence,” Murkomen said in a statement.
“I call upon all leaders to shun divisive politics and to stop exploiting our youth to perpetrate violence for political gain. Instead, they should embrace issue-based solutions that positively impact young people and contribute meaningfully to national development.”
Murkomen also praised the police service for their mission to combat drug and substance abuse in the region.
“In Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County, I joined the faithful of AIC Kamuneru for church service and a fundraiser for infrastructure development,” the former Elgeiyo-Marakwet County senator said.
“I commended our local security agencies for their efforts in combating drug and substance abuse in the area and urged them to sustain it. I also urged them to intensify efforts to curb cases of defilement and improve service delivery to wananchi.
Murkomen warns Gachagua
Murkomen made the remarks a day after warning former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over alleged planning of violence in the country.
“The reason Gachagua fears me is that I know him, and I know he’s the father of violence in our country,” Murkomen said.
“Any person who is involved in recruiting gangs and criminals, we will deal with them decisively and in accordance with the law,” he warned.
“He has conned people for far too long, but I want to tell him, you can con some people some of the time, but you cannot con all the people all the time.”
