Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has asked Kenyans to forgive him for missing the National Assembly session during which MPs voted on the contentious Finance Bill 2026.
Nyoro was not in the chambers during the voting exercise, which saw the bill pass after 122 members voted for it and 40 opposed.
While addressing the press on June 27, 2026, Nyoro said he made a mistake but said he did not abdicate his legislative duties.
“I want to take this opportunity to apologise to Kenyans for the disappointment I caused them last week during the Finance Bill vote. It is not the way I do things; nilikosea hapo,” Nyoro said.
“It was not abdicating the duty. I have been trying to do as much as possible when it comes to governance in this country, especially anything to do with public finances. So, whatever happened, I apologise to Kenyans, and we have learnt from it to do better and to be better representatives of the people,” he added.
A mole?
The vocal MP also addressed rumours that have labelled him a government mole.
“I want to start by saying, as you all know, it has been a very bitter pill for me to swallow for the last week, but most of the bitter pills, many times, also give us reprieve, and they make us learn and become better,” Nyoro added.
“There is no way I can speak the things I speak about if I am still in government.”
“To my recollection, in terms of all the Finance Bill debates and votes, I have been participating in all the debates and votes, including the year 2025,” he concluded.
After missing the Finance Bill 2026 vote, Nyoro’s next steps will be closely followed as time ticks towards the 2027 general elections.
