The Orange Democratic Movement has scheduled a Special Delegates Convention for March 27, 2026, in Nairobi, bringing together key party officials and representatives amid rising internal divisions.
Participants will also include branch executive chairpersons, members of the Council of Governors, county assembly leaders, and officials from the ODM Youth, Women, and Disability Leagues.
The meeting is convened under the provisions of the ODM Party Constitution. Key items for discussion include ratification of a resolution by the National Governing Council on party leadership and consideration of a National Executive Committee resolution concerning Article 87 of the party constitution.
The convention will also feature adoption of the agenda, speeches from party officials, and an address by party leader Oburu Oginga.
Internal tensions and postponed elections
The announcement comes amid heightened political activity within ODM, including the recent postponement of delegates’ elections in Kisumu County. In a March 6, 2026, letter, party leader Oburu Oginga directed the cancellation of the polls due to concerns over the prevailing political environment.
The elections were part of ongoing efforts to reorganize grassroots leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Earlier this month, the ODM Parliamentary Group endorsed decisions including the installation of Oburu Oginga as party leader and continued negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Party organs also supported ongoing collaborations between ODM and UDA, signaling strategic alignment ahead of upcoming political contests.
