Kenya has won big by picking on Rwanda, which has officially opted to use the Port of Mombasa and the Kenya Pipeline network for its new Government-to-Government fuel importation programme, bypassing Tanzania’s Central Corridor.
Beyond the immediate business opportunity, this reinforces Kenya’s position as the region’s preferred logistics and energy transit hub.
For listed companies, the development is particularly positive for Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), which stands to benefit from higher throughput volumes, while it also strengthens the long-term strategic importance of the Port of Mombasa and Kenya’s transport and energy infrastructure.
This is another reminder that regional trade dynamics can create long-term value for infrastructure assets long before the financial impact is fully reflected in earnings.
