Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has warned health facilities operating under the Social Health Authority that any involvement in fraudulent activities will lead to immediate cancellation of contracts.

Speaking at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, Duale said the government is tightening oversight as part of reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability and service delivery. He emphasized that facilities found engaging in malpractice will face swift action.

Duale revealed that some facilities in the region are under investigation over suspected fraudulent claims. He said the government will not hesitate to act against institutions misusing public resources, stressing the need to maintain trust in the healthcare system.

He urged providers to comply with ongoing digital reforms under the programme, noting that improved monitoring systems are key to eliminating irregularities and enhancing efficiency.

The Cabinet Secretary also encouraged patients to use the Afya Yangu platform to track medical records and monitor how their healthcare funds are utilised during hospital visits. He described the system as a vital tool in promoting transparency and empowering citizens.

According to the ministry, 836,558 residents in Bungoma County have already registered under the programme. He called on more residents to enrol to benefit from services offered.

To strengthen implementation, Duale said 425 county liaison officers have been deployed nationwide to support health facilities and ensure compliance with regulations.

During the visit, he commissioned a new radiology unit and CT scan centre valued at KSh300 million at Bungoma County Referral Hospital. The equipment was acquired through a partnership between national and county governments to improve diagnostic capacity and reduce referrals.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka said the upgraded facility will help lower treatment costs, save time and improve timely diagnosis. He added that trained personnel are in place to operate the equipment around the clock.

The event was attended by Social Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi, Digital Health Agency representative Anthony Lenayara and other officials.
